Speed up Xubuntu Boot Time
Speed up Xubuntu Boot Time
I run Xubuntu, now version Hardy Heron, and for a while the boot time has slowed to a level that was not as quick as a clean install. To try and find a solution to this I did a bit of research on Google for ways to achieve a quicker boot time.
Two solutions presented themselves. Boot-Up Manager (BUM) which lists the programs started on boot time and additionally allows you to switch certain ones on and off - very useful.
The other boot analysis tool is not so useful immediately but probably far more interesting and called bootchart. It basically plots the times for various services and programs to load on boot in a nice colourful graph. From then on you can tune your system to speed up times. The only catch is knowing how to do this. For reference I have included my bootcharts on three seperate boots, if anyone knows how to speed these up, mail me!
